NVIDIA SHIELD Controller beta comments

UPDATE 2015.01.15.

Over the holidays, I received lots of feedback, so I will iterate a bit more on the prototype and keep the product in beta to achieve total happiness. You can see a great pic of the latest UtorCase for the NVIDIA Tablet and controller https://twitter.com/silenc3willfall/status/555178657543897088.

The two finalist prototypes is the one you see on this page, and the model with the weight point over the controller as requested by some .

Also, here is one of the latest feedback from Kayne. A big thank you! The current beta now includes his and many other suggestions, and I am yet to receive this version myself.

"I received the holder for my Nvidia controller and tablet yesterday. My first impression was is this really going to hold the heavy tablet? I felt a little leery also because I noticed the 3D printer kind of had a few little snafus on a few spots. I installed it on my tablet and controller and it fit great with the screw holes. It even held my tablet very firmly! I did not even care about the small imperfections in the piece. I just thought I would let you know I am really glad you decided to make these holders. I have an Nvidia Shield (the one with the built in screen) as well and when I saw they came out with the K1 Tegra I knew this tablet was going to be awesome. They just never came out with a case that was really that gamer friendly when trying to play in bed or the car or even at your desk. I really hope you keep redesigning these holders. I think I might get one for my daughters Nexus 7 and PS3 controller.

I was wondering if I could maybe make a few suggestion on the design though. Maybe this is not even possible but just a thought of what I noticed after using it the first time.

1. The attachments at the base of the controller are a little rough/sharp at the ends on the sides of your hands when you hold the controller.

2. The strips that go over the top of the controller in the middle seem a little thick. Maybe there is a way to make them more flat and a little wider to help with the integrity of the hold.

3. The 2 side strips next to the back, home and play button on the Nvidia controller made it harder to hit those buttons. Maybe the thickness could be adjust there as well.

I am attaching your picture of the device with the my notes.

Overall I really love this product. It was exactly what I was hoping would show up on the internet to purchase. I saw a few makeshift holders which looked really bad and clumsy. I am really happy that you decided to pursue in creating these holders and even making more than 1 for different configurations. I am planing on purchasing the PS4 controller eventually and I would use it with your holder as well.

Please do not take my suggestions as criticism. I am very happy with the product. Thanks again!

Also if you want me to take any sort of video or pictures of the device in use let me know I am more than happy to help.

-Kayne"

UPDATE 2014.12.23.

Merry Christmas! Just received the latest prototype run where I found a new and very strong fit for the controller, so before retail I will do another beta run to also test various weight points. This new design uses 4 screwholes on the controller and gives a tight mount. I will also need to udpate the current product pics and video with the new design. Here are some other models I am cooking:

The shipment date for this batch is the week of January 12th, so fingers crossed we will have a retail version that week! :)

UPDATE 2014.11.26.

Just received the latest beta prototype and the latest design is beautiful and works flawless. So, I am doing some minor tweaks, eg decreasing the height of the case around the controller Android buttons, and it should be ready for Christmas! The product demo picture is with a Nexus 7, but the actual product on this page is for the NVIDIA Shield Tablet and Controller.

UPDATE 2014.11.10.

Looking for beta testers for the NVIDIA Shield controller and SHIELD Tablet! Thanks to previous beta tester feedback I am now at the third and hopefully last iteration of the NVIDIA Controller prototype. the next release in a few weeks should be the final full product!

Are you a pro photographer?

If you can make great photos of your UtorCase for the NVIDIA SHIELD controller and tablet I will reimburse your purchase. I am looking for photos with similar quality or better than what I have up now. :) In addition some in use pics would be great as well, eg holding in hands, playing at the backseat of a car etc.

Any questions?
